According to folklore, King Janak gave enormous wealth, gems and jewels to his four daughters, four sons in law and Maharaja Dashrath as dowry. Like modern days dowry was displayed probably at this place. Symbolizing the vast sea of gems and jewels given as dowry, this place is named Ratna Sagar ie sea of jewels.
